About
Pidgin is a chat program which lets you log in to accounts on multiple chat networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on MSN, talking to a friend on Google Talk, and sitting in a Yahoo chat room all at the same time.

Pidgin with IRC
Once you start pidgin you need to connect to an irc server. We are running an internal irc server so type in the ip address 192.168.168.5. You will also need to enter a Username and password. For your username enter your domain login id and choose a password. Click on save and then close. You are now logged into the internal irc server.
Register your Nick
You should register your nick and to do that choose
- Buddies > New instance Message > and type NickServ
A chat session window with NickServ will open. If you type the word help you will see all the options this bot allows.

If you want to register your nick then type:
- /msg nickserv register <password>
Where <password> will be the password you entered in the previous setting. From here on you will always be automatically identified when you enter the server.
Memo Bot
Another bot that we are running on our server is called the memoserv. You can talk to this bot by:
- Buddies > New instance Message > and type MemoServ.
A Chat session will open with this bot and you can type help to get the following screen:

You can read all the options and use them to leave people messages.
Open Channels
You can create any channel you like. Let's say you want to join a channel called programming.
- Buddies > Join Chat > in the channel name type #Programming
This will join you to the programming channel.
Create Buddies
You can create buddies by
- Buddies > Add Buddy > type in their domain login.
Now as soon as your buddy logs in, you will see them in your buddies list.
Debug
- pidgin -d > ~/debug.log 2>&1
