There are two types of RAID, software and hardware. The type of RAID you will choose depends on your budget. Software solution is a lot cheaper than the hardware solution.
Software RAID
This array is managed by the kernel, rather than any specialized hardware device. The kernel keeps track of how to organize data on many disks while presenting only a single virtual device to applications. These days software raid is as good as any hardware raid. If you are on a budget then software raid is your solution.
